What do you mean? Are you hoping Kerry would die in the first month after taking office? Wink

McCain made about the same statement - parsing-wise - to Russert (when he suggested the same ticket) two weeks ago, but accompanied it with a lot of head nay-shaking. My take at that time was it was a definite 'no' for an answer.

But without the visual cue, it sounds like he's considering it. You watch, the Republicans are going to pound him for this and he'll have to do a complete media 180 within 24 hours.

Definitly on former, but maybe not on the second, not anyway if he plans a full scale rebellion taking with him some key moderate republicans.

Oh, hell, who am I kidding? But god, wouldn't it be great to have a national unity ticket to challenge these cretins and their huge cash machine?

I voted McCain in the 2000 primary, just to send a particular message --

'ANYBODY BUT BUSH!'

In my fantasy, Kerry and McCain run together, then shortly after winning the white house, announce that they are forming a new party, a third party, with fiscally conservative democrats and socially liberal republicans.

Then I wake up.

In the better version of this fantasy, McCain and Kerry aren't wearing the cheerleader outfits.

I'm not crazy about having any legislator serving as the top executive. Plus, it hasn't been done since JFK.

That being said, I'll be voting for the candidate most likely to defeat the incumbent, this time around.

I *DO* like the idea of a senior lawmaker as the president of the senate. Bob Dole would've made a kick ass VP- he was good in the back rooms and everyone owed him favors. Both Kerry and McCain would make excellent VPs.

McCain has absolutely nothing to lose by making this statement. There's not a single Republican who likes or trusts him, but he's politically necessary because he's so popular. Him defecting to the Democratic party would be a big big problem for Bush. Essentially, McCain is jockeying with bush for power. With this statement, he's saying 'listen Bush, you want my support, you've got to give me something.' and Bush is weak enough right now, I think that he'll give it to him, whatever it is. That's not to say that I wouldn't love to see a 'National Unity' ticket, and I think if I were Kerry's campaign strategist, I would certainly give it a lot of thought.

Chenney is out as VP for second term. To old and full of cholesterol to run for president in four years. Plus, if he's ejected, they can blame stuff on him.

Who's in?

(wait for it)

Giuliani.

He *might* keep NYC from burning down during the convention.

"Dont worry kids! I'll run as vice prez! All you democrats who have been working within the party for years forget about having a shot at being on the ticket!" Some Nerve! If I was a democrat I'll be pissed off!
And with good reason! I wish Wesley Clark or Dean would beat the crap out of that creep! Grudge Match(tm)! Yeah!

Not that it makes much difference who wins, but...

McCain at least has the courage of his convictions. And, he'd defintely swing the election for Kerry, no doubt.

Since it makes no difference who wins, and I so desperately want to see Bush defeated, I'm all for a ticket of "national unity."

Of course, the question is: would he give up his party affiliation?

Of course I'm sure you're already aware that McCain's chief aide has announced that Mr. M is not available as a VP candidate this year. Shortly after M said he'd think about it, the aide made the statement. I suspect M bitch-slapped himself when he thought about what he'd said earlier. Cross over to run with a Dem against a wartime Republican president?

He might as well put on a saffron robe and immolate himself.

No, I'm afraid that McCain was simply too good a candidate to be true. He'd make a lousy VP, and no party would make him president. A lousy VP because he'd either fail to keep his mouth shut and end up tearing apart his administration, or because he'd work so hard to keep his mouth shut that the stress would give him a heart attack and he'd die. So we'll just have to be glad that he's at least in the Senate. M was the candidate who was too good for the office.

Politics is a big whore.-Romanian proverb

McCain is ending the end of his career as it is. He's not particularly respected amongst republicans.

But he is feared, which for their kind is almost the same thing.
