Bush Nominates Alito
WASHINGTON — President Bush on Monday nominated Samuel Alito (search) to the Supreme Court. "Judge Alito is one of the most accomplished and respected judges of America and his long career in public service has given him an extraordinary breadth of judicial experience," Bush said in making the announcement. "He's scholarly, fair-minded and principled and these qualities will serve him well on the highest court in the land." The White House arranged for Alito to go to the Capitol after the announcement. If approved, Alito — considered a conservative federal judge — will replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor (search), a moderate.............. READ MORE |

For a minute there, I thought you were talking about Alito; in which case, I should hope not. Though it could be as funny as one of Miers' thank you cards.
Either an RSS feed, or some poor shlub at Fox News is being forced to find "liberal leaning" chat boards to post random snippets of articles on. "Thank you LAL. You're the best RSS feed ever! Yes you are!" »» "Forget infinity. I've got books waiting for me to read them." — colin »»"Speculative novels of last Tuesday." — William Gibson |

It sure did not take long for the Left to get their talking points faxed out the the mainstream press.
DIANE SAWYER: They've called him "Scalito," and he is actually nicknamed "Scalito" because his opinions mirror those of Justice Scalia. MATT LAUER: He is so conservative he's been called "Scalito," a comparison to Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. JESSICA YELLIN (ABC): He's sometimes nicknamed "Scalito." DAVID GREGORY: This guy is in the mold of Antonin Scalia. That's why he's called "Scalito." KELLY O'DONNELL (NBC): He is a "Scalito-light." He has been described by some as in the mold of Antonin Scalia. GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS (ABC): He's a morph of Antonin Scalia. He thinks like Scalia. THALIA ASSURAS (CBS): He's modeled himself after Justice Antonin Scalia, has been given the nickname of "Scalito." GLORIA BORGER (NEW WEEK): He may be called "Scalito" because he's quite conservative, but he is not bombastic like Justice "Scalito." |

Wow! They're reporting he has a nickname. That liberal-media bias will get you every time. Some liberal found out he has a nickname and now they all know he has a nickname. Just how biased can you get, huh? Shutdown the liberal media before they find out he has a date of birth and start reporting on that too!
Maybe the liberal media could make up a new nickname for him, like some fuckwit tried to call Clinton Clintorous. Fucking idiot. |

The real reason everybody in the various media outlets says basically the same thing is they all read the same newswire reports. I used to work at a college radio station (well, "work" is one word for it) and sometimes read the newswire. It was amazing how those stories were basically repeated, verbatim, by every damn radio and TV station you could find. Even the human interest stories and the quirky stories were the same everywhere: straight off the newswire.
So, I would guess that some newswire report came through saying that "He's modeled himself after Justice Antonin Scalia, has been given the nickname of 'Scalito.'" And, as Kradlum points out, saying that the appointee resembles an earlier judge and giving him a nickname based on that is not much of a talking point. |

What's funny is this is almost a word perfect recitation of Scooter's post on media reaction to the Miers nomination, and we will recall what happened that time. Apparently our trollito has a problem learning from experience. It's like his incapacity to comprehend there's more to politics than the insular dichotomy of Democrats and Republicans, despite the number of times this has been explained to him.
Ever watch a bluebottle try to fly out through the wrong half of a partially open window? Bzzzz Bonk - Bzzzz Bonk - Bzzzz Bonk. It's amusing for a while, but quickly just annoying, and not long after that you just feel sorry for the poor dumb beast, unable to learn from its mistakes or break from its stupid program. ........................................................................................ Drop a house on her from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. |

Humourous Thought for the Day:
Here's 30p, go phone someone who gives a shit. The right to bear arms is slightly less ludicrous than the right to arm bears. |

In the first sourced report Bush says he is "a thoughtful judge who considers the legal merits carefully and applies the law in a principled fashion". All judges should be this of course regardless of persoanl beliefs. If this is true then there should be no problems. If it isn't true he shouldn't be a judge, IMHO. A man should be honourable whatever his personal beliefs. But maybe I've missed the point here.

Regarding posted story:
Land of the free, huh? Good thing that the government provides the sorely needed morale compass that I am obviously lacking. Like my old friend used to say about the US - "Consume citizen and we'll do the thinking for you". Morale or otherwise, apparently. All too true. Was der hahn ?!?!? |
