Well, sort off anyway. A short term interim government is in the making. It should be fully formed and functional by christmas, and will deal with a number of urgent cases. It will also smooth the way for a new full government, which (according to current statements) will have to be operational by mid march.

And that right after we said, here on the WGB, that, unless there is a Government, all Belgiam politicians should not be paid! See what a difference we make?

Update: the negotiations for the temporary government (which should have been dead easy) have come to a stop, because different parties can't agree. Fucking crap.

Yes. Belgians were always good at surreal art, but damn... this is taking it way too far.

We have a government! They finally agreed on what parties will make up the emergency government, and it's going to be sworn in on friday.

Now, in my opinion, they ought to all be locked up seperatly without contact with the outside world, so that they can not start arguing between now and friday.

Here is the plan for you Wanderer. Marry Meru and become a US citizen. Then you can tell your Government that, if they don't get their act together, you are out of there! :-)

As a Belgium citizen, Wanderer can move to which ever country he likes in the EU (provided he finds a job). Far more attractive than US citizenship IMHO...

And he won't have to ever feel ashamed of who his fellow citizens elected as a ruler.

Oh, wait... Smile

Dual citizenship wouldn't change that, though.

No, but it would mean you would have to pay US tax (over a certain pay threshhold) whether you lived there or not.

I love being able to move anywhere I want to in the EU AND in the US! Having more than one citizenship rules. I hate nations and national borders.

You don't have to pay taxes TWICE, if that's what you mean.

I've always found it fun to provoke a Flemish friend of mine and ask about Walloons.

"I hate them."

"Why? Have you ever met one?"

"No, but I hate them."

And while it's funny, and amusing, and harmless... there's something slightly disturbing about an otherwise kind person professing to hate, as a whole, a group of people.

There are two possibilities-- she's misusing the word "hate," which is the nicer of the two, though still a problem in and of itself.

Or she is just as prejudiced as any of the famous racists in history, most of which I'm reluctant to mention for fear of Godwin's Law.

Innocuous, perhaps, but not innocent. What do you think?
