Yes, Greece voted on a new government yesterday.
And it's one for the conservatives. (Me voting for them too.) It wasn't like the country is right wing. More like the socialist party has been in government for the last 25 years pretty much. They became the establishment and that goes not well with the idea of socialism. They tend to forget themselves... So we didn't really vote for the right wing (which was smart enough to show center tendencies), as it was a negative vote for the socialist party. Next time they'll do better. We needed to start boohing and yelling at the conservatives for once again anyways. Jose I think your turn is coming up pretty soon too, isn't it? |

Ya, 25 years is just about long enough to corrupt anyone in power, and that's not even figuring in how corrupt they may have been to begin with (and if they *got into* power in the first place, you probably need to assume their corruption level doesn't start out at zero.

No, but it looks like it, doesn't it? Don't tell me I offended you? I'm sorry. Deep down I'm the greenest green, I swear! Actually, the way things turned out I ended up outsourcing for a small U.S software business. |

quote: Yes, we are now in the middle of the poll wars. I feel this election is the one with the less propaganda pressure. The right probably will win because Aznar has step down, so the focus for most dislike of the government has disappeared. Of course, the lack of a credible alternative from the socialists does not hurt. It is a very sad state of affairs when the communist party seems the only reasonable people around. At least they are consistent. José |

In the words of an amusing-but-harmless right-center comic in the U.S., P.J. O'Rourke,
"The greatest indictment of Communism is that it's the only system that could take a whole country full of Germans and make them poor." kerplunk |

quote: no, I didn't mean it to sound as a political rant. I was just surprised if one would take such a looooong journey from USA to Greece so as to vote. and well I'm pretty sure noone will notice any difference, from now on with the new leaders I mean. |
