A Florida man is using billboards with an image of the burning World Trade Center to encourage votes for a Republican presidential candidate, drawing criticism for politicizing the 9/11 attacks. Mike Meehan, a St. Cloud, Florida, businessman who paid to post the billboards in the Orlando area, said former President Clinton should have put a stop to Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda before 9/11. He said a Republican president would have done so. "I believe 9/11 could have been prevented if we'd had a Republican president at the time," Meehan said Wednesday on CNN's "American Morning." As Bugs might have said, "What a maroon!". ----------------------------- "It may be said with rough accuracy that there are three stages in the life of a strong people. First, it is a small power, and fights small powers. Then it is a great power, and fights great powers. Then it is a great power, and fights small powers, but pretends that they are great powers, in order to rekindle the ashes of its ancient emotion and vanity. After that, the next step is to become a small power itself." --GK Chesterton, "Heretics" |

From what I hear, it would've been nice if the US had any sort of president at the time of 9/11.

Yeah, that would've been cool, but how often do you get to watch a monkey throw his shit all over the world for the better part of a decade.

In all of human history? Pretty often. I'd say the odds of living in a time period where one witnesses this is about 50-50. --- "I knew their tastes were very different and because the french like Dick a lot." -W.G. |

That's a fairly specific number. Any data trail to back up the assertion? It'd be an interesting read...

Well, it was a really broad estimate. I figured that you could pretty much take most Roman emperors and say they were flinging their shit on everyone for the better part of each of their reigns. Then, the Pharaohs perhaps, at least in their "known world."
Certainly the Popes have done it from time to time. Genghis Khan, Atilla the Hun, Alexander the Great, the British under Victoria, Napoleon, Hitler... Say we have 5000 years of recorded history, that means we'd need 2500 to be loaded with powerful men unloading their crap on the world (or at least the known world.) Maybe I am off, 1 in 5 maybe? Dunno. But still, not uncommon at all. --- "I knew their tastes were very different and because the french like Dick a lot." -W.G. |

Sweet! Information is the new cool! You know, I've remarked that sometimes white tuna tastes metallic. I had previously chalked it up to improper freeze/thaw. |
