Okay. We can mess with the gravity of a single subatomic particle if we throw enough energy to power NYC for a week at it in a microsecond.

Still, from my experience, that's more effective (and easier) than dieting and exercise in reducing weight.

So there are hundreds of thousands of LHC experiments performed every day as cosmic rays collide with the earth's atmosphere. I see. That must be where all the Star Wars funding went, sucked down all those low-orbit black holes.

So the first couple of beams were fired successfully.

Did you watch the video? Did you see the sweat pouring off the guy at the end as he explained how perfectly safe this project is? Makes me really look forward to the first collision ... hopefully somebody tapes the flopsweat-fest in the control room for that blessed event.

"Oh, wow, it actually worked!" (fingers crossed)

"All your Higgs are belong to us," the hackers failed to quip.

I mean really. Missed opportunities.

Perhaps the Greek translation wasn't as funny.

It might be sad, but I bet there's someone, somewhere, already making a pr0n movie called "The Large Hardon Collider".

For those of you willing to let the BBC educate you regarding how the LHC won't cause Jesus to emerge from the ground to pick your boogers,
please click here for a (technically) illegal but excellent educational documentary.

That wasn't a fuse. That was a miniblackhole. Even as we speak, the team is bandying about strange new terms like 'gravitational anorexia' and 'vacuum burst'.

"But you gotta understand there's a shadow government that runs everything," said the big guy in Carhart overalls and black bill hat.

True enough, most likely, but the assurance with which he spoke this opinion as fact was scarier than any shadow gov.

I leaned over and said, "The mini black holes swallowed it up. Now we have an anti-shadow government."

To my surprise and dismay, he didn't look at me like I was nuts but nodded sagely in seeming agreement. No one humors a lunatic like a lunatic, I tell ya.
