Had our platforms on the roof last night and got FOGGGED OUT! only saw a couple comets. Last year though we saw dozens over several evenings.

Should still be peaking tonight. Just not in the 1 to 2 per minute range. It is comet dust that makes the meteors. Dust from the Swift-Tuttle comet tail. The tail intersects the Earth's orbit but the orbital path of the comet does not intersect and is quite far away.
