Interesting, it must have been a messy evolve...

Fossils suggest that lemurs, bush babies, lorises, aye-ayes, and their relatives (the prosimians) spilt off from the ancestors of monkeys and apes around 55 million years ago.

We need to get back on topic. I thought we were talking about salsa and capers.

If you don't have any cilantro, oregano or parsley laying around your house, you can substitute it with chopped rucola. It gives the salsa a nice nutty bitter flavor. I tried it last week at an impromptu BBQ.

And a recipe especially for MoM
Pasta Puttanesca
(and it's not even Pirate Friday)
Arrr!

There's a Yucatan restaurant [15th street 1 blk off julian in SF for the locals] that has my current favorite salsa. One of them has pumpkin in it. I've been utterly unable to find even a similar recipe, but I'll keep you posted. I did find a recipe that's quite similar to their normal salsa. Has radishes. [Thanks to Mike's Recipe Archives]

Mmmm, whorish smelling pasta!

I recently discovered Puttanesca sauce, and I'm loving it. Of course I don't make it myself, I'm a bachelor. Pffft! Amazing stuff. I like to add Italian sausage to it.

But that recipe is flawed, FP. You should used Kalamata olives. Much tastier.

Anyway, Cost Plus World Market has the best I've tried so far for the price. Jewel has Dean & Deluca Puttanesca that looks good...for $9 a jar! Mmmm, capers, anchovies, olives, raisins...

Any body need a couple of capers? I just bought my first jar. Ever.

The cats won't eat em. They keep spitting 'em out when I give 'em to 'em like pills. Even rubbing their furry little throats doesn't help. Stupid cats.

I'm not that keen on capers myself. Why would you want to feed them to your cats? Just to get rid of 'em? I'm not entirely sure capers are good for cats. Capers may be bad for cats.

I bet this is a gag and I'm the only one who doesn't get it.

hahahahahahahaa

I guess I should add here that sometimes in fancy restaurants there will be a few capers in a sauce, and I like that pretty well. I think a few of 'em go a long way.

You just can't get the material

I had a conversation on this very topic on Saturday after ordering a Salad Niçoise and telling the waiter I wanted it without capers.
Dining companion J immediately said
–so just bring it to the table without any of that leaping about in a comedy fashion.

And the waiter had no idea what he was talking about.

I hate capers.

"...make a unique and refreshing change from the traditional olive in your favorite martini."

Capers, they're not just for breakfast anymore.

And that's good news, neh?
