Wal-Mart Stores said today that it will start selling a 30-day supply of generic drugs for $4 in an initiative that will be launched in 65 Tampa Bay area stores on Friday.
The discount pricing of popular generics will be rolled out statewide by January and Wal-Mart plans to take the program to additional states next year.
The new program was announced Thursday morning by Wal-Mart executives at a store in Tampa.

This may wind up being a huge thing. Depending on what medications are and if other retailers all follow suit. Especially as doctors adjust a begin to prescribe the listed drugs and dosages based on this pricing.
edit;
here are the medications offered, does anybody know how popular they are?
AMOXICILLIN
ALBUTEROL
IBUPROFEN
PENICILLN
are the only ones I recognize offhand.

Generally, it looks like broad spectrum anti-biotics, blood pressure drugs, asthma, hormone replacement, anti-depressants... I don't think there is any logic to it, other than what is available as a generic and will sell enough to make a profit.
In the UK we always prescribe generics when possible.

My prescriptions are always name brand or generaic equivalent, with the pharmacist allowed to give either I think. Wal-Mart usually aims for 3% profit on each item (which isn't much) and they are able to demand their supplies adjust prices on other items, I suppose it is good that they are doing this with drugs as well. Not for independant pharmacists I guess but for the sick people I mean.

He won silver in the 200 metres at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, an event best remembered for the medal ceremony that followed.
The gold and bronze medallists, American pair Tommie Smith and John Carlos, performed a black power salute while each wearing a black glove and bowing their heads as the US national anthem was played.
Norman wore a human rights badge in support of Smith and Carlos, who both attended today's ceremony, held at the Williamstown town hall, and acted as pall bearers.
Carlos said Norman was a rare individual.
"What we were standing for... was far greater than any athletic feat ever," Carlos said.
"As we stand hear thinking about Peter Norman, think about the greatness of the man who said I stand with you - I don't stand before you, I don't stand behind you, but I'll stand with you...

There is good news here - by 2030 the U.S. plans to eliminate 20,000 unnecessary deaths each year (and various other casualties) through cleaner diesel fuel and new engines. On the other hand.... the U.S. is resigned to accepting more than six 9/11's a year for 25 years because people have a God-given right to their old polluting diesel engines? And... I always knew they were filthy, but people have been exposing their schoolchildren to this for how long without even.....
