"Pots" of easy money?

"It may be said with rough accuracy that there are three stages in the life of a strong people. First, it is a small power, and fights small powers. Then it is a great power, and fights great powers. Then it is a great power, and fights small powers, but pretends that they are great powers, in order to rekindle the ashes of its ancient emotion and vanity. After that, the next step is to become a small power itself."

Marc Emery, president of the B.C. Marijuana Party and head of a pot and hemp-based business empire:

Looks to me like he hasn't been waiting for legalization before sampling the product.

"There's no amount of justification here to legalize illicit substances such as marijuana," said Sgt. Dave Goddard of the Vancouver Police. "It does too much damage to our community. For example, consider the severely depleted local stocks of snack food. Or the increased incidences of automobiles running as much as fifteen kilometers an hour under the speed limit. Not to mention the drastic cutbacks in overtime for our officers, we have children to feed, you know."

Steamed potatoes? Who the hell steams potatoes?

Do mashies count? They're steamed first. Or, um, I guess they could be.

Boil 'em, steam 'em, microwave 'em.

Even pistol-whip them, IIRC.

Wasn't the problem that they'd see another panda and think to themselves, "Ah, she's way too cute?"

But sometimes the double act of military and aid organisation can backfire. After Capt Chuck Brooks finished having tea with the villagers of Masi Kalay, he signalled to one of his soldiers to play a message on the loudspeaker of the Humvee.

Suddenly a voice in the local Pashto language screamed: "Lie on the ground and put your hands up. We will search your houses." Red-faced, Capt Brooks started shouting: "Wrong message, sorry. Wrong message."

Dag. If they can start labeling their mix tapes, we might actually get somewhere.

I think I'll send a care package full of sharpies and sticky labels.

And tapes of Donna Summer. Let the reconstruction be DISCO-FAAAAAABULOUS!

Hmmm, "shepherd's pie". Almost sounds like a euphemism.

What exactly is Yorkshire Pudding? And why do I suspect that I'd love it?

Yes. What is Yorkshire Pudding?

It's what you get when you combine a thin flour and egg batter with hot fat, traditionally with roast beef fat. It puffs up and forms a crispy crust and moist centre. A shame to only serve with meats.

All so true, Pauline.

The batter is similar (identical?) to the recipe for popovers. The only difference is yorkie pudd is a bit bigger in circumference than popovers; and it doesn't need butter the way popovers do, because it cooks in all that lovely rendered fat. yum!

Good news: I haven't had a cigarette since noon yesterday. It's actually bad news for everyone who has to talk to me.
