OK, this might turn out to be bad news but Ghostbusters was still a great film.

A step in the right direction

Slow. Cumbersome. Still in it's infancy. It, however, shows a step in the mind/body interface direction.

Cruise looks stupid in an eyepatch

quote:
From the day Tom Cruise put on his eye patch, squeezed into a pair of knee-high jackboots, and started working on his Nazi goosestep, pundits have been queuing to declare the Second World War thriller Valkyrie the most reckless gamble of his career. The film, a $90m (£60m) portrayal of the 20 July 1944 plot to kill Adolf Hitler, in which Cruise plays the failed assassin Claus von Stauffenberg, has been dogged by an almost comic array of problems since its inception two-and-half years ago.

Politicians tried to block filming in Germany. Relatives of Von Stauffenberg expressed disapproval at Cruise's links to Scientology.

Once they get home, if they get home, we prefer to sweep them under the rug and forget about them. Sometimes they remind us they are here, but for the most part they're assimilated.

I like to think this means we can have Cruise prosecuted for treason, for glorifying someone who tried to kill Hitler.

There was a reason the Allies never tried to assassinate Hitler late in the war. One, it would have made him a martyr.

Two, old Adolf was doing such a great job of losing the war. Were he killed, there was a chance someone who could actually command an army would take his place - someone who'd made it above the rank of lance corporal.

There was a plan, I think, of parachuting two Polish agents into Germany, to snipe Hitler as he walked the parapet at the mansion he frequented in Bavaria. SOE called it off, even after it had all been planned and ready to go.
